My Favorite Things

I was the milk-maid today and so I had a bit of time alone in the car to think. It's a gorgeous day! Bright blue sky, a coolish breeze (upper 70s to low 80s), windows down, ... I was driving along, thanking God for a myriad of things, and I began to wonder what a list of my favorite things would look like. I know it would be long but here are a few:

My husband in his jeans and hiking boots with the wind in his hair and his hand holding mine.
Hugs from Hannah.
Hugs from Zach.
Hugs from Bekah.
Hugs from Jesse.
Hugs!
My whole extended family.
My friends.
My kids' friends.
Dogs.
Horses.
Cats.
Bears.
Wolves.
Loons.
Being in the front seat of the canoe with a long twisty creek ahead of me.
Hiking - and sitting down, being very quiet and listening to all the forest sounds.
Sleeping in a tent.
Swimming in the ocean.
A good cup of tea.
A new book - and time to read it.
Snow!

Obviously my list isn't just 'things' because some of my favorites are people.

What are your favorite things?

A few of my favorite things?

Hugs from Hannah
Hugs from Zach (when I steal them)
Hugs from Bekah
Hugs from Jesse? Maybe someday. . .

;-)

Aside from the obvious, I'd say my CCC family!
Cookies
Not talking when words aren't necessary
My bed
Days without headaches
Surprising my family with something special
Feeding my family
Totally agree on my kids' friends thing
Those "aha!" moments during devotions
Singing
Music
A certain set of cornflower blue eyes
Those same eyes duplicated in our children's faces

I could go on and on!

I just read your post about your kitty. I'm so sorry you have to go through this! Quite a few years back, I went through a similar thing with my dog, Snoopy. We get so attached to our pets, and they're just like part of the family! I know it isn't easy.

As for my favorite things?
Dates with Dad
Grocery shopping with my mom
Lunches with Papa
Sleepovers with my sister
Making my piano sing
Hitting the right harmony notes (ha!)
Looking at Mexico pictures for the millionth time
Reading the same books over and over
Discovering new things (little though they may be)
Wearing a sweater aside from fashionable reasons
A specific "iron-sharpening-iron" friend
Getting to know my close friends even better
Yellow roses
Elegant dresses
Jeans
Shoes (of course!)
Being with my "kids"
Talk that isn't just small talk
Concerts
Imagination
Railroad tracks
Rainy days
Long car rides
My pastor
Prayer
Hope
Experiencing God's grace every day!

Wow! That list got very long very quickly. So many more....
God is so good and has blessed us with more than we deserve! Thanks for posting this; it really got me thinking about everything for which I am so very thankful!

Mom, I love getting hugs from you too, and I love giving them!

Some of my favorite things....

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens : )
Spending time with my awsome God.
Spending time with my wonderful family.
Spending time with my amazing friends.
Looking at pictures from PNG and asking God to let me go back someday.
Looking at pictures from Mexico and thanking God for that trip, and for the people who went along.
Praying with friends.
Playing my violin in my room.
Playing with my pets.
Working with my bone collection.
Taking pictures.
Reading about the land that holds my heart, and its history as far back as it is recorded.
Using my very vivid imagination.
Wandering in the woods with no particular destination.
And walking so quietly that I can startle deer standing just yards away from me.
Asking God questions with answers that I know I can never fully comprehend.
Being still.

And the list could go on, but I think I'll stop there.

I love you Mom!

Wait! I've something to add to my list. Reading Hannah's list is now one of MY favorite things! :]

Hannah,
I'm definitely with you on the whole "being still" thing. I love asking God questions, just for the fact of seeking Him, even though I can't always fully understand. It was wonderful to see you last night! I got in the car, and I said to my passengers, "Now, wasn't that like old times?" (In case you haven't noticed, change isn't one of my favorite things.) :D

Aw girls, now you're making me cry! What's new with that, eh?

Seriously, the depth and richness of your personalities and friendship makes my eyes drip tears of gratitude to God. I prayed that He would give Hannah true and godly friends and I never dreamed that I would get to enjoy the overflow of His abundance!

Hannah, does this remind you of the journal we used to keep on the kitchen counter and use write back and forth to each other? Precious memories! Now in our crazy busy lives we share our hearts on the world wide web even though we live in the same house!

I love you, dear daughter!

Yeah,yeah, thanks a lot Hannah!!!
They are DISGUSTING!!!!!
But I do like the way you laugh every time I imitate a bog body, and make that shriveled face, and suck out loud!!!!

Truly disgusted

Such beautiful people, you friends of mine. I wish I had more time to spend with you. Reading these comments has made me cry. Not a sad cry, not a joyful cry, but the simple overflow of emotion that happens deep inside when one heart finds in another a kindred spirit.

My favorite things?
My husband being silly, especially when he makes up songs.
Baby giggles, especially MY baby's giggles
Cuddling
Reading a good book (Gene Stratton Porter anyone?) Playing in the dirt - especially when it renders something edible!

Canoeing
Sleeping in a tent (not when it's HOT)
Watching Caiden learn about the world around her
Time with my WHOLE family
Rainy days- especially if I can dance in it, and if it doesn't bring a headache.
Quiet moments being still with Jesus
Watching my siblings love on my baby
Classical music
Dear friends
