Birthday Fishing Trip
Last Saturday was my annual fishing trip, and this year I picked the Indian River, now don't get mixed up. Its not an actual river system with a source of water and a mouth, its just called that and don't ask me why. Anyway, my target was to catch a Redfish (or Sciaenops Ocellatus) for those of you who want the Genus Species. Not surprisingly, I did my homework and tried to find all of the good Redfish locations in Florida and one was the waterways around Merritt Island area, and it was the closest and the one we were most familiar with. Now usually I'm a freshwater fish type of Guy, but in the past couple of years I have been bitten by the Redfishing and inshore fishing bug (and it is one cool bug!!!), and that is why I chose this location. So how many of you will get up at five in the morning and get going to go fishing? Not very many I would guess (except maybe a few of you who would like to go fishing with me). One thing I have to mention is that my Dad went along with me and he is the one who took all of these brilliant pictures, THANKS DAD!!!!!!! OK, lets get talking about the fishing, well I pick out of my tackle box a combination of lures that looks like a swimming minnow and tied it on and started casting to all of the likely spots. After a couple casts I get a bite and set the hook with a swift motion and the game is on!
The battle of Man V.S. Redfish.
The Redfish still fighting. It is so fun catching one of these and once I recognized the copper colored sides I knew I had a Redfish. And my goal was to get it in the boat because I didn't want to lose my first Redfish.
Victory!!! My first Redfish, successfully fought and caught!!!
A closer look at the Red. What a pretty fish! I kept thinking in my head that this has to be one of the most beautiful fish God created!! I know it must seem wierd to think a fish is beautiful but my mind is made up!
See what I mean - look at the tail of this one! It is one of the prettiest colors of blue that I have seen on a animal.
Here is number three when I pulled it from the water. This is the one with the really pretty blue tail.
Another look at Redfish number three.
The release of number three. I had a really good day and I caught four Redfish, a catfish (the one that gave me a cut with his spine), a puffer, and a seatrout. So indeed I had a very good day. Hopefully I will be able to go back there soon and catch some more fish!
